Abstract: Established in 1918, Denver Water proudly serves high-quality water and promotes its efficient use to 1.5 million people in the City of Denver and many surrounding suburbs, which constitutes one-quarter of Colorado’s population. Denver Water is currently executing its largest capital plan in history to rehabilitate and build necessary infrastructure. Robert Mahoney, PE, Denver Water’s Chief Engineering Officer will discuss key aspects of the capital plan execution, including:
• Overview of capital budget planning;
• Efficiency gained through common procedures and standard work;
• Delegation to effectively utilize human resources;
• Examples of large infrastructure projects; and,
• An example case study for contracting with alternative delivery methods.

Bio: Robert Mahoney is the Director of Engineering for Denver Water, a position he has held since 2006. His office is responsible for the design, construction and related engineering aspects of physical additions or improvements to the water system. It provides surveying and mapping services, engineering functions, contract administration support, as-built drawings, land acquisition services and GIS database administration for system assets, among other duties. Before joining Denver Water, Bob worked as the vice president/managing engineer of Brown & Caldwell, as well as a principal engineer with Boyle Engineering. He is a registered PE in the State of Colorado and holds certificates in Executive Leadership and Project Management. Robert graduated with a B.S. degree in civil engineering from South Dakota State University, Brookings, and holds an MBA degree from Regis University, as well as a dual M.S. degree in Project Delivery and Organizational Leadership from Regis University.
