Bachelor-Master Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP)

Bachelor-Master Accelerated Master's Program (AMP)

Books, Diploma and Cap

Students may apply for admission to a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree program to begin their graduate programs during their senior year of undergraduate study.

Students can pursue three different AMPs in CE:

  1. Master of Science (M.S) Plan A (thesis)
  2. Master of Science (M.S) Plan B (engineering report)
  3. Master of Engineering (M.E.) Plan C (coursework only)

Students may apply internally to the Department to begin taking graduate courses during their senior/ last year of undergraduate study. This plan allows for flexibility in scheduling and completion of upper division undergraduate requirements while concurrently fulfilling graduate course requirements for an M.S. or M.E. degree. Students who are accepted into the AMP in CE will be allowed to apply up to nine credits of CIVE 500-level coursework to both the undergraduate and graduate degrees, if these credits satisfy requirements for both programs as outlined by the University catalog.

Interested students must meet with the CEE Graduate Advisor to discuss the program no later than the second semester of their junior year for a fall start or no later than the first semester of their senior year for a spring start.

Requirements

M.S. Plan A or Plan B Requirements:

  • To apply, students must be enrolled in the BS degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering and have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above.
  • Completed 90 credits of coursework towards the undergraduate degree, including 15 credits in civil and environmental engineering courses (prefix CIVE).
  • Have a commitment from a faculty in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to serve as their graduate advisor.

Students must maintain a GPA of 3.25 or better throughout their senior year.

M.E. Requirements:

  • To apply, students must be enrolled in the BS degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Completed 90 credits of coursework towards the undergraduate degree, including 15 credits in civil and environmental engineering courses (prefix CIVE).

Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better throughout their senior year.

CIVE 500-level courses

During the senior year of undergraduate study in CEE, Accelerated Master’s Program students may take up to 9 credits of graduate-level courses that can count toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. For courses to count towards both the undergraduate and graduate degrees, they must be:

  • Regular CIVE 500-level credit courses (last two digits from 00 through 82)
  • Passed with a grade of B or better

The B.S. degree will be awarded upon completion of all undergraduate requirements and the M.S. degree will be awarded upon completion of all graduate requirements.

AMP & Graduate School Application and Deadlines

The application to the AMP Program is submitted directly to the CEE Graduate Advisor. Interested students may apply between the end of the spring semester of their junior year and August 15 prior to their senior year for admission that fall semester. Alternatively, interested students may apply until December 1 of their senior year for admission during the spring semester of their senior year.

Students graduating with their B.S. in May 2022 are eligible. However, please reach out to CEE Graduate Advisor as the application process/ timeline is slightly different for this first semester.
