Maximize Your Education

Planning to pursue a graduate degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering? Save time by enrolling in our Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) and begin taking graduate courses while completing your bachelor’s degree at CSU. Not ready for a graduate degree? Start with a graduate certificate!

Undergraduate juniors at CSU can begin earning graduate credentials before completing a bachelor’s degree. Students can “double-count” up to nine credits of regular 500-level civil engineering courses (CIVE) toward:

  • an Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP);
  • a graduate certificate; or
  • general graduate coursework.

Accelerated Master's Program (AMP)

The Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) allows current Civil and Environmental Engineering undergraduate students to reduce the time required to complete a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree.

Graduate Certificates

Students can also pursue a graduate certificate while completing their undergraduate degree. CEE offers graduate certificates in:

  • Food-Energy-Water Systems
  • Hydraulic Design
  • Tailings Engineering

Eligibility

  • Must be a current CSU student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • Complete 90 credit hours towards the bachelor’s degree including 15 credit hours in civil and environmental engineering courses (CIVE).
  • Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (for Master of Engineering and graduate certificate applicants) or 3.25 (for Master of Science applicants) and maintain the minimum GPA through their senior year.
  • Pass all “double-counted” courses with a grade of B or better and satisfy the requirements for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Even if you do not currently qualify for an accelerated program, you may still qualify to enter a graduate program after you complete your undergraduate degree!

Next Steps

Meet with the CEE Graduate Advisor

Students interested in AMP or a graduate certificate should meet with the CEE Graduate Advisor preferably during the junior year, but no later than the first semester of the senior year. The timing of your application will impact when you may be able to begin the program, so schedule your meeting to discuss the program early!

If you simply want to take graduate coursework as an undergraduate without pursuing a graduate credential, reach out to the CEE Graduate Advisor to discuss your registration options (no application needed!).

Submit Application for a Graduate Credential

If you are pursuing a graduate credential, you will need to submit a Graduate School Application (see more instructions on our Graduate Admissions page). Select your desired graduate credential on the application:

  • Accelerated Masters Program (AMP)
    • Two of the three required recommendations should be from your current CEE faculty
    • For Master of Science applicants, one faculty recommendation should be from the faculty member who agrees to serve as your graduate advisor.
  • Graduate certificate (select specific program)
