Smith interviewed by ABC15 Arizona on subsidence in the state

CEE Assistant Professor Ryan Smith discussed the causes and implications of subsidence, the sinking of land due to groundwater pumping, on an Arizona news broadcast by channel ABC15. Arizona experiences some of the worst subsidence in the country, a typically permanent change to the landscape and to the groundwater supply.

Smith and his team developed a model to track subsidence and groundwater storage loss. Smith also received NSF funding to study subsidence issues in southwest Utah.
