Omur-Ozbek receives George T. Abell Award for Teaching and Mentoring

Associate Teaching Professor Pinar Omur-Ozbek was recognized at the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering 2024 Faculty & Staff Awards ceremony this week.

Omur-Ozbek received the George T. Abell Award for Teaching and Mentoring “in recognition of her outstanding record of innovative teaching methods and commitment to student success, dedication to the Principles of Community and inclusive excellence in her teaching and mentoring, and emphasis on fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.”

“I was very grateful to receive this award,” said Omur-Ozbek. “It makes such a difference when your efforts are seen and valued.”

Omur-Ozbek shared her teaching philosophy has evolved in her fifteen years at CSU.

“Early on, my emphasis was primarily on the content and my delivery of the content. Now, I put more effort into my connections with students to ensure every student receives a welcoming inclusive environment of support, while still effectively delivering content.”

Often faculty are not aware of the impact they make on students until a student shares their experience.

“Hearing directly from students how they have felt supported and encouraged gives me a better direction as my teaching philosophy continues to evolve,” said Omur-Ozbek. “My purpose is to make a difference in my students’ lives.”

Congratulations, Dr. Omur-Ozbek!
