Ryan Morrison co-authored the paper “The changing face of floodplains in the Mississippi River Basin detected by a 60-year land use change dataset” which was published in Nature Scientific Data this month.

The study was a large collaborative effort between researchers at the EPA, Texas A&M, CSU, University of Tennessee, and the University for Foreigners of Perugia, Italy. The aim was to understand and quantify how floodplain land cover has changed in the Mississippi River Basin over the last half-century.  Morrison’s role included helping to develop and apply a model to identify floodplain landscape at a large scale of the Mississippi River Basin, and also to assess the implications of major land cover transitions on river and floodplain management and restoration.
