Steps to Apply

All programs through the Systems Engineering Department require official transcripts to be received before an admissions decision can be made.

  1. Download and read the complete application instructions (on the right), which details all requirements and admissions materials needed.
  2. When you are ready to apply, begin your Graduate School application.
  3. When asked for type of Program, choose “Certificate” and then choose your intended certificate title from the drop-down menu.
  4. Submit all required supplemental materials by the deadline posted below. Refer to the application packet for where to send materials.
  5. Submit your finalized Graduate School application and pay the non-refundable application fee.
  6. Check the status of your application to ensure all materials are received by the deadline.

Upon receipt of all your application materials, your application is reviewed by the admissions committee. Once a decision has been made, it can take 4 weeks before you receive official notification from the Graduate School.

    • M.E. Select ‘Systems Engineering (M.E.)’ when choosing the program of study.
    • M.S. Select ‘Systems Engineering (M.S.)’ when choosing the program of study (note that M.S. Plan A students must secure a faculty advisor before the application will be considered; Plan B students do not need a faculty advisor).
  3. Submit all required supplemental materials by the deadline posted below. Refer to the application packet for where to send materials.
  4. Submit your finalized Graduate School application and pay the non-refundable application fee (see below for app fee waiver details).
  5. Check the status of your application to ensure all materials are received by the deadline.

  2. Secure a permanent faculty advisor. Please review the application packet for vital information on this process. You must have an advisor before your application will be considered.
  3. When you are ready to apply, begin your Graduate School application.
    • Select ‘Systems Engineering (Ph.D.)’ when choosing the program of study
  4. Submit all required supplemental materials by the deadline posted below. Refer to the application packet for where to send materials.
  5. Submit your finalized Graduate School application and pay the non-refundable application fee (see below for app fee waiver details).
  6. Check the status of your application to ensure all materials are received by the deadline.

  3. When you are ready to apply, begin your Graduate School application.
    • Select ‘Systems Engineering (D.E.)’ when choosing the program of study
  4. Submit all required supplemental materials by the deadline posted below. Refer to the application packet for where to send materials.
  5. Submit your finalized Graduate School application and pay the non-refundable application fee.
  6. Check the status of your application to ensure all materials are received by the deadline.

Your application is reviewed by the admissions committee after the application deadline has passed. Once a decision has been made, it can take 4 weeks before you receive official notification from the Graduate School.

Deadlines

To have a complete application to start in Spring or Fall semesters, all materials must be received by these dates:

Spring:

November 1 – All Programs

Summer:

No Admission

Fall:

April 1 – D.Eng.
July 1 – All Other Programs

  • You will receive an admissions decision quickly (about 2-4 weeks from submission of complete application) for Spring or Fall semester for all programs except the DEng.

  • DEng application reviews begin only after the application deadline for that term has passed.

GRE removed as application requirement
All students can apply to SE programs without submitting GRE scores.

Application Fee Waiver

If you attend an information session, or watch a recording of a previous one, and you meet the below criteria, you can receive a waiver of the normal application fee. Steps to receive the application fee waiver are discussed during the info session. Note that we cannot waive your fee until your application is submitted, with all required supplementary materials already received (i.e. fully complete except the payment).

Systems Engineering applicants meeting all the following criteria can receive a waiver of the normal application fee:

  • Applying to an online master’s program, on-campus master’s program, or on-campus PhD program
  • Have attended or viewed an SE information session 
  • Are not eligible for an application fee waiver through the Graduate School
  • Meet all minimum application requirements (i.e. 3.0 GPA, math prerequisites, etc.)
