Teams are already assigned for 2025! But we might consider alternatives if someone has to drop out. So it’s worth applying if you are interested.
This is a 8-week challenge focused on creating VR experiences centered on the theme of Climate Resilience. It includes training, team building, equipment access, and a final presentation event with prizes.
All who complete the challenge receive $200.
Eight teams of four people will compete! Each team will be assigned based on your application and strengths.
Teams will be offered feedback and mentorship from virtual reality experts, artists, and programmers.
Introductions, team project lead chosen, determine team member roles (artist, programmer, sound design, etc.), prompts dispersed, start Unity Essentials tutorials. Begin forming ideas for project prompt.
Finish Unity Essentials tutorials and move on to Unity VR Development tutorials. Begin solidifying ideas for the project and create a rough outline of the project idea.
Finish Unity VR Development tutorials and begin development of team project. Begin planning how users will interact with the project (will the users stand in place, or will they move around the environment; how will they move around: teleporting, walking with analog stick or walking in real life, other methods; will the environment scene be indoors, outdoors, etc.). Environment layout can be planned with simple 2D sketches, 2D illustrations, or with 3D block outs. Begin gathering and creating assets.
Continue working on team project.
Continue working on team project. If you haven’t already, begin testing your project on the Meta Quest 3 headset.
Begin wrapping up project: limit the number of new things added to the project, work on resolving bugs, issues, and technical problems, and continue testing the project on the headset.

Finalize project, build apk file, and load onto Meta Quest 3.
Complete the project!

Judging is based on the following criteria: design, methodology, execution, creativity. Judges will circulate among student teams on the last day of the challenge.
