Modernizing Automation in Industrial Control/Cyber Physical Systems Through the System Engineering Lifecycle
Continue to work as a systems engineer in industrial automation. I will be an active member of field of study by publishing my work, attending conferences, and maybe one day teach.
I enjoyed visiting the campus a couple of times, CSU is one of the prettiest campuses I have ever seen. I plan on coming again next year for a football game.
Thank you for all the help and support. The department was always very encouraging, positive, and helpful.

Systems Engineering Analysis and Application to the Emergency Response System
Remain as a professor at CSU
Dr. Sega continually prodded me along as I was working on the degree saying “Dr. Bo, this is the year of the dissertation.” This went on year after year since 2015.
Six years later ‘the year of the dissertation finally arrived.’
Was a great feeling when it was finally over – and no longer having to hear that ‘this was the year’ when now the work/degree was completed.

Incoming Systems Engineer Intern at Woodward, Inc.
Attending System Architecture class at the Coal Bunker (classroom) in the Powerhouse Energy Campus during Fall 2019.
I remain grateful to my advisors, Dr. Herber and Dr. Shahroudi, for always supporting me and mentoring me throughout my academic pursuits at Colorado State University.

I currently work at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) as a hydrogen systems engineer. I’m excited to apply my new SE skills to systems integration projects at NREL.
My favorite course was SYSE 534 (Human Systems Integration) taught by Dr. Erika Miller. However, all the coursework was extremely valuable and the professors were all great!
I’m looking forward to future research collaborations between CSU and NREL, especially in the realm of hydrogen infrastructure and fuel cell technologies.

So many plans and my first priority is to play more with my two children, Jack and Lily. I enjoy my work at Gartner and the research skills I picked up at CSU are certainly helping in my career. I will also look into teaching opportunities and work towards the goal of giving the gift of knowledge to future students. I will continue to publish research in academic journals and collaborate with my PhD advisor. I plan on being confident and grateful.
Favorite professor:
I really enjoyed Professor Simske’s stories, and the energy and passion he made evident in our cybersecurity course. It was also very awesome to witness Professor Miller’s R skills and mastery in data visualization. I had the opportunity to travel to present some of my PhD research at conferences. My photo is from Sofia Bulgaria during the 2019 IEEE QRS Conference at Sofia University. The conference opportunities were a great experience.
A huge ‘Thank you!’ to the staff and faculty at CSU!
I am a military brat and currently live in Denver, CO
I currently work at United Launch Alliance as an Avionics Mission Integrator and am training to be a team lead. The courses for this degree have helped give me the broader systems perspective needed for continued professional growth.
Favorite professor:
Dr. Erika Miller is the best part of this program—every one of her classes is fascinating and useful in the workforce. My favorite one was Human Systems Engineering which was very eye opening and challenged me to approach the human interaction with systems as a puzzle, not a problem.
Many thanks for the family, friends, and mentors who have been instrumental on this journey. To God be the glory!
