Dr. Ezra Levin and Prof. Anna Hodshire

Favorite Memory

“I have so many beautiful memories from my time at CSU. As a mother, I took some of my classes remotely, and one of my favorite moments was when my daughter wanted to unmute me during class just to say hi to everyone. Another special memory was bringing her to my work at CSU’s Energy Institute and seeing her eyes light up when she saw my pictures on the wall, it was truly unforgettable. I also took her to the METEC research facility, where she saw the Vapor Recovery Tower. After that, she excitedly told everyone she had seen a rocket and that her mom is an astronaut! I have truly enjoyed my time at CSU.”

Post-graduation plans

“I plan to work in air quality by helping bridge the gap between the oil and gas industry and regulatory frameworks. I am also passionate about giving back to my home continent, Africa, and am actively working with universities to introduce and strengthen international air quality regulations in the oil and gas sector.”

Thanks you’d like to give

“I am deeply grateful to my PI, Prof. Dan Zimmerle, for taking a chance on me as a master’s student in 2020 and for his continued mentorship through my PhD. I sincerely thank my co-advisor, Dr. Ezra Levin, for his guidance and support. I am also grateful to my academic advisor, Prof. Anna Hodshire, for encouraging me to pursue my PhD, for helping me grow as a communicator, and for boosting my confidence in presentations. Finally, I thank CSU and the Department of Systems Engineering for the opportunity to pursue this journey.”

Anything else you'd like to say?

“I am especially grateful to my daughter, Glorianna, for her patience throughout this journey. To my friends, Mercy Ngulat and Christianah & Ezekiel Alaba, thank you for stepping in to care for my daughter when research demanded my time. To my family, I deeply appreciate your steadfast love and support. God bless you all.”

“This is a complex question for me coz this month April 2026, I have been in the US as long as I was in India since I was born. I was in San Ramon, California for 20 years and have been in Houston for 6 years now. I can call Jalgaon, India (where I grew up as my hometown) but San Ramon, California feels like my hometown to me too coz I had my kids there and majority of one of the best times of my life was spent there 🙂 I think I would just leave this hometown question out from my profile that you feature 😄.”

I wanted my dissertation to be something of value to NASA and something that can be applicable and used on the Artemis missions, so thank you to my branch chief at NASA Scott Wenger for providing me with this opportunity to work on designing new telemetry displays for our team! My team at NASA challenged me every step of the way and gave me some great input and feedback on my new ideas so I could make them a reality; I am so thankful to them! Many thanks to my advisor, Dr Gallegos, for her support and guidance throughout my dissertation journey! And last but not the least, a huge thank you to Dr. Bradley, Dr. Simske and Dr. Maresh for being on my PhD committee!”

Anything else you'd like to say?

“I was looking for a PhD program that would fit into my criteria (I had a few!), and after trying out a couple of options, I am so glad I found this Systems Engineering PhD at our university! I wish I had found it sooner, would have saved myself some time. But the best things come in their own time, and so it did, I am excited to be graduating! CSU has been an awesome experience helping me add one final academic feather in my cap!”

Engineering Impactful Science in a Research Enterprise by Dynamic Modeling of Innovation Life Cycle and Evolution

Advisor

Dr. Kamran Eftekhari Shahroudi

Favorite Memory

“Some of my favorite memories from Systems Engineering at Colorado State University come from the professors who managed to turn complex, abstract frameworks into something alive and human. They have the ability to weave real-world systems engineering into stories that stick with you long after their lectures ended. You could feel their enthusiasm when a model finally clicked for the class, or when a messy block diagram suddenly revealed a hidden structure. Office hours often turned into mini design sessions, where professors sketched ideas on the computer with excitement. What stays with me most is the sense of mentorship: the way they encouraged curiosity, challenged assumptions, and treated every question as part of a larger system worth exploring.”

Post-graduation plans

“Continue my current position as an official at the Office of Naval of Research, responsible for portfolios of Science and Technology research projects designed to deliver new capabilities to Naval Warfighters. I also pan to continue research and develop methods for analyzing, predicting, and measuring innovation using SYSTEMS ENGINEERING, SYSTEMS THINKING, SYSTEMS DYNAMICS, AND PROBABILITIES.”

Thanks you’d like to give

“I would like to express my gratitude to my dissertation advisor, Professor Kamran Eftekhari Shahroudi, for his support, mentorship, and guidance throughout this doctoral journey. From the very beginning, he welcomed me into the program and introduced me to the profound disciplines of Systems Dynamics and Systems Thinking, which have since become the intellectual foundation of my research and my carrier. I would also like to thank all my family and friends that have supported me through this endeavor. To my mom, Clara, who always reminded me to take a break so I would not lose my mind, to my brother Terry for his unwavering support and confidence in me, to my children Natasha and Lawrence for their patience and caring, and to Sarwat for embarking on this journey with me.”
