CSU Systems Engineering becomes PMI Authorized Training Partner
- By: Kevin Fleming
Colorado State University’s Systems Engineering department is now a Project Management Institute (PMI) Authorized Training Partner, offering ENGR 502 to help students prepare for key project management certification exams.
The PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP) program ensures that organizations meet the high standards set by the Project Management Institute (PMI) to deliver quality exam preparation. ENGR 502 now includes access to PMI-approved materials and expert instruction to prepare students for certifications such as the Project Management Professional (PMP)®. PMI certification is widely recognized as a standard project management credential across industries.
“Project management is an important skillset for engineers to enable a systems perspective of engineering projects,” said Michael Botyarov, ENGR 502 instructor and an experienced program manager. “This course will give students the tools and knowledge to excel on the certification exam and in their professional careers.”
Obtaining a PMI certification, such as the PMP®, enhances career opportunities, increases earning potential, and validates a professional’s ability to manage complex projects, according to the PMI’s website.
ENGR 502 provides foundational knowledge in engineering program management, risk assessment, work breakdown structures, and costing strategies. ENGR 502 also satisfies departmental prerequisites for other courses, and counts toward graduate credit, fulfilling requirements for degree and graduate certificate programs.
CSU’s Systems Engineering program offers other courses designed to encourage students to get industry-recognized certifications, including SYSE 501. This course can serve as an academic equivalent to the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) knowledge exam for two key certifications. These programs are designed to empower professionals with practical, applicable skills for today’s engineering challenges.
