Salomonson Named Goddard Senior Fellow

Dr. Vincent Salomonson, College of Engineering alumnus who earned both his B.S. in agricultural engineering in 1959 and his Ph.D. in atmospheric science in 1968 at Colorado State, has been named a Goddard Senior Fellow at the Goddard Space Flight Center. Salomonson is one of only 24 individuals who have received this honor.

Salomonson is a senior scientist at the Goddard Space Flight Center of NASA. He currently is serving as the science team leader for the NASA Earth Observing System facility.

Salomonson served as the Director of Earth Sciences at the Goddard Space Flight Center from 1990 to 2000. As Director of Earth Sciences, he oversaw and coordinated the activities of approximately 300 civil service scientists and engineers in the Directorate and over 700 supporting contractors, students and visiting faculty.

Over Salomonson's 25-year career, he has received numerous awards. These include Distinguished Executive in the Senior Executive Service (1998), Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the Distinguished Service Award from IEEE. In 1996 he was awarded the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal "for his leadership establishing the Goddard Earth Sciences Directorate as an internationally recognized entity performing interdisciplinary Earth system science". In 1987 Dr. Salomonson was made an Honor Alumnus of Colorado State University.
