Chemical Engineering Celebrates 25 Years on Oct. 12, 2002

The Department of Chemical engineering celebrated their 25th anniversary homecoming weekend with an Anniversary Breakfast and Guest speakers. The event, held in the Lory Student Center attracted over 70 guests, including many alumni, current and past faculty, current and past staff and friends of the department.

The event included a welcome breakfast, and opening remarks by alumnus Bill Evanko. Dr's Judson Harper and Lionel Baldwin provided the university background for the beginnings of the Chemical Engineering Program and a "Down Memory Lane" segment was presented by Dr. Naz Karim and Dr. Vince Murphy. An award presentation for the logo contest, and a department update by Department head Ted Watson. In addition, with the help of alumnus Jim McMillan the Department surprised Dr. Vince Murphy by announcing plans for the Murphy Endowment for Chemical Engineering Education. The Department wanted to recognize the tremendous impact Dr. Murphy has had on CSU students during the past 25 years, and believed an endowed fund in Dr. Murphy's name would be excellent way to do so.
