Atmospheric Science Professor Awarded Prestigious American Geophysical Union Fellowship

Professor David A. RandallThe American Geophysical Union has named atmospheric science Professor David A. Randall a 2002 AGU Fellow. This prestigious honor recognizes Randall's original research contributions in cloud-climate studies and cloud dynamics.

Scientists selected as AGU Fellows have attained an acknowledged eminence in one or more areas of geophysical science. Less than 0.1% of AGU members are honored as Fellows in any given year.

Randall joined Colorado State's Department of Atmospheric Science in 1988, previously holding positions at NASA and MIT. He completed his B.S./M.S. in aeronautical and astronautical engineering at Ohio State University in 1971 and his Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1976.

Randall's current research focuses on modeling studies of clouds and their role in the global climate system, including the development of improved cloud parameterization methods, numerical experiments to determine the role of clouds in maintaining the present climate and an investigation of the role of clouds in climate dynamics.

Earlier this year, Randall was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world's largest general science organization and publisher of the peer-reviewed journal Science.
