CMOS Electro-chemical Biosensor Micro-Electrode Array System
Abstract: A high spatiotemporal resolution CMOS electro-chemical biosensor micro-electrode
array system is presented. The custom designed CMOS microchip was fabricated
under 3M 600nm process with 128 × 128 (27.5 um pitch) Working Electrode (WE)
sensing points and evenly distributed Auxiliary Electrodes (AE) and Reference
Electrodes (RE). In the current state of hardware-software development, the system
is capable of simultaneously detects chemical gradients at 16,384 WE surface with
50pA sensitivity at four frames per seconds rate. Selectivity towards different
analytes is also presented utilizing electrochemically active neurotransmitter
(norepinephrine) and uric acid. Future works include: in depth analysis of selectivity
using cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry; application in other significant
analytes (oxygen, glucose, and lactose); and overall system improvements both in
technical and user-friendliness aspects.
