Ronald C. Glover of IBM to Speak at Professional Learning Institute Workshop

Ronald C. Glover

Unique to the College of Engineering, the Professional Learning Institute (PLI), a series of interactive workshops led by industry leaders and CSU faculty and staff, will kick off this year with special guest speaker, Ronald C. Glover, Vice President of Global Workforce Diversity, for IBM.

Developed in response to employer feedback nationwide, the program is essential to creating well-rounded engineering graduates capable of competing in a global workforce. This is a co-curricular program and undergraduate students are required to complete three short courses workshops in ethics and two workshops in each of the following: global culture and diversity, leadership, innovation, and civic and public engagement. Students also have opportunities to obtain certificates of expertise in desired track areas by attending additional workshops. A requirement for graduation, the PLI recognizes and addresses the need for professional skills, in addition to hands-on technical abilities in the 21st century work environment.

"What we required from new engineers in the past are not the same things we require today. Our 21st century work environment is requiring a new generation of excellent global leaders that not only master technology but are also able to think and act in global-centric ways...You have created a model with the PLI at CSU that will go a long way towards addressing this need. In addition, I believe that you are placing CSU in the lead among colleges and universities by taking this multi-functional and multi-year approach." - Alma Vigo-Morales Director, Diversity and Organizational Effectiveness MWH

In addition to workshops throughout the year, the College of Engineering will host Professional Learning Institute Day on November 2, 2007. Students are invited to participate in workshops led by education and industry leaders and CSU speakers. The morning kickoff will be led by Karen Watson, Dean of Faculties and Associate Provost at Texas A&M University.

The first industry speaker of the year, Ronald C. Glover, will address global culture and diversity this upcoming September. Prior to joining IBM in 2003 as Vice President of HR, Integrated Supply Chain, Glover held a variety of HR management and executive positions, in addition to serving as a senior trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Labor in Massachusetts.

Glover, a member of the Society of Human Resource Managers and founding member of both the Conference Board's Council on Workforce Diversity and the New England Labor Council, is a former adjunct professor of business and labor law at Northeastern University in Massachusetts.

Glover holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Brandeis University, and earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in Massachusetts.
