Gomide Named Minister of Mines and Energy for Brazil

College of Engineering alumnus Francisco Gomide has been appointed as Minister of Mines and Energy for Brazil. Gomide earned his Ph.D. in civil engineering in 1975 from Colorado State.

Prior to being named Minister of Mines and Energy, Gomide served as the president of the Espirito Santo Power Plants from 1995 to 2001. Gomide also presided over the Binational Itaipu, the Enersul Company of Electric Energy of the Mato Grosso of the South, Company Paranaense de Energia and the Brazilian Association of Hydological Resources.

Both Gomide and Jerson Kelman, Brazil’s chairman of the board of directors for the National Water Agency, were doctoral students under civil engineering Emeritus Professor Vujica Yevjevich.
