Mechanical engineering student Daniel Wilson was recently awarded the Kelly Engineering Resources' Future Engineers Scholarship. Kelly Engineering Resources, a business unit of global staffing provider Kelly Services, Inc. assessed candidates on academics and their commitment to engineering. Each applicant was also evaluated on an essay submission addressing issues in the engineering industry today.

Wilson's composition "Planting the Seeds of Heroism" addressed national engineering shortages, highlighting the under representation of women and minorities as well as engineering stereotypes. Wilson emphasized positive role models as solutions to these national trends. "It is my aspiration to continue planting seeds for future engineers in my community by volunteering my time to local schools and always remaining positive, fun, healthy, and charismatic in deportment," said Wilson.

According to Kelly Engineering Resources, the educational scholarship of $5,000 was developed to address the engineering shortages and promote student interest in the field. Sponsors included the Engineering Society of Detroit, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Automation Alley, Chemical Processing magazine and Power Engineering magazine.

The recipient of several honors including the Colorado Distinguished Scholar and Legacy Award, American Council of Engineering Companies Scholar and Hewlett- Packard Scholar awards, Wilson is already a demonstrated success. Highly involved both on campus and off, he has served as a resident assistant, even founding father of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA as an engineering student in the University Honors Program.

"Daniel's exceptional essay illustrates the forward thinking and ingenuity our future workforce is capable of offering potential employers," said Teresa Carroll, vice president and general manager of Kelly Engineering Resources. "There is an eminent shortage of talent in our industry, so Kelly Engineering applauds students like Daniel for their hard work and commitment to the field of engineering."
