Kent Rominger Presents Monfort Lecture on "Life in Space"

The College of Engineering is proud to announce that civil engineering alumnus Kent V. Rominger has been chosen to present the Monfort Professor-in-Residence Lecture this spring. Rominger's presentation on Life in Space is scheduled for Thursday, April 12, 4:00-5:00 p.m. in Ammons Hall, Room 123.

Rominger had a distinguished 27-year career with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the U.S. Navy. During his Naval career he logged more than 7,000 flying hours in over 35 types of aircraft, and was a Top Gun pilot before joining the NASA astronaut training program. He flew on five NASA shuttle missions, serving as pilot and then commander, and was the first U.S. shuttle commander to lead a mission to the International Space Station.

Capt. Rominger culminated his NASA career as Chief of the Astronaut Office after serving as Deputy Director of Flight Crew Operations. He joined ATK Launch Systems Group in October 2006 as Vice President, Advanced Programs.

A native of Del Norte, Colorado, Rominger received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Colorado State in 1978 and a Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in 1987.

As an astronaut, pilot and shuttle commander, Rominger has earned numerous awards, including the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Defense Superior Service medal. He is the recipient of two Colorado State University awards, the College of Engineering Distinguished Service Award (1997) and the William E. Morgan Distinguished Alumni Award (2002), the University's highest honor.

The Monfort Professor-in-Residence Program is designed to bring accomplished individuals in business, government and the arts to campus from around the world. The program is funded through a gift from the Monfort Family Foundation.

Rominger's talk is open to all faculty, students and staff, as well as the public.
