'Team MIKE' Walks Away with 3rd Place

The Society of Automotive Engineers Walking Machine Competition was held this year in Golden at the Colorado School of Mines. There were 28 teams registered, and CSU’s “Team Mike” placed 3rd overall in the competition and won the Most Autonomous Award. The CSU entry was the first to achieve an award for level 2 autonomous operation.

Colorado State has been very successful in developing innovative walking machines that have won against the best collegiate robotic teams in the world. Since the first SAE Walking Machine Competition was held at Colorado State in 1987, CSU has won first place overall eight times, second place overall once, and third place overall three times. All in all, CSU Walking Machine teams have achieved a top finish 12 out of 16 years of the competition.

CSU has earned numerous other awards in the competition, including Best Paper, Best Paper Presentation, Best Mechanical Design, Best Electrical Design, Best Design, Award of Excellence, Best Analytical Approach, Most Innovative Design, and Most Autonomous Award.
