Rocca Receives IEEE LEOS Distinguished Lecture Award

Untitled Document ECE Professor Jorge Rocca recently was elected a Distinguished Lecturer by the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (LEOS). Only eight lecturers worldwide are selected annually for this prestigious award. As a Distinguished Lecturer, Rocca will be allocated a travel budget, allowing him to give talks on a topic of his choice at various LEOS chapters around the globe.

"This has been a year of many successes for Jorge and I am pleased to congratulate him on yet another outstanding award," said Tony Maciejewski, ECE Department Head. "Jorge has made pioneering contributions to the field of short wavelength lasers, and I believe this is a tremendous opportunity for him to share his work with the scientific community."

The Distinguished Lecturer Awards program is designed to honor excellent speakers who have made technical, industrial, or entrepreneurial contributions of high quality to the field of lasers and electro-optics, and to enhance the technical programs of LEOS chapters. The Society aims to select a balance of speakers who can address a wide range of cutting-edge topics in the fields covered by LEOS.

Rocca serves as director of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Center for Extreme Ultraviolet Science and Technology, a collaborative effort with the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of California at Berkeley. The Center recently received renewal funding from the NSF to continue its work in the development of new laser technologies and their numerous applications.

Rocca, who obtained his doctoral degree in electrical engineering from Colorado State in 1983, is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, the Optical Society of America, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
