College Honors 2003 Silver Medal and Laureate Award Winners
Colorado State's College of Engineering annually honors two top seniors for their academic and personal accomplishments, their leadership in professional societies and volunteer activities. These outstanding students are presented with one of two all-college awards.
The Silver Medal award is presented to the engineering student who has excelled academically, demonstrated an all-around ability in several areas as a student at Colorado State and shows great promise for the future. This year's winner was Karen Mohr. Karen majored in mechanical engineering, graduating Magna cum laude, and is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She was a leader in the student chapters of Tau Beta Pi, the Society of Women Engineers and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. Karen was on the Dean's list for four semesters.
The Laureate Award is presented annually to a senior who has excelled in the
classroom and shown a strong commitment to volunteer and extracurricular service
activities. This year's winner was Derek Reding. Derek was also a mechanical
engineering major with a minor in mathematics, and was on the Dean's list three
semesters. He was a leader of the ASME and NSCS student chapters and founded
the CSU chapter of ASHRAE.
