Engineering Student and Alumnus to be Honored at Alumni Association's Award Program May 2

Outstanding graduates and friends of Colorado State who have made an impact on the university and the wider community will be honored at the Alumni Association's annual Distinguished Alumni Award program on May 2.

The event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Fort Collins Marriott, 350 E. Horsetooth Road. Dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. and awards will be given after dinner.

Seating is limited and advance tickets are required. Tickets are $50 per seat and $500 per table. For tickets or more information, call the Office of Alumni Relations at (970) 491-6533.

This year the honorees are:

William E. Morgan Alumni Achievement Award

The Alumni Association's highest honor, the William E. Morgan Alumni Achievement Award, goes to John K. Matsushima (1943, 1945), professor emeritus in the Department of Animal Sciences who is known for his exceptional support and commitment to the university, the Fort Collins community and the nation. Matsushima's 50 years of academic service spans three universities and more than 10,000 animal science students.

Charles A. Lory Public Service Award

Jo Ann Ostwald (1958), retired language arts and social studies high-school teacher in Fort Morgan, will be recognized for her exceptional service during her six-year term as Alumni Association board member and for her service on community, church and social organizations.

Jim and Nadine Henry Award

Barbara Jolly (1956, 1963), retired Colorado State University Cooperative Extension agent in Routt, Pueblo and Douglas counties, will receive the Jim and Nadine Henry Award for her significant support and contributions to the Alumni Association.

Albert C. Yates Student Leadership Award

Jeffrey Carroll, electrical engineering student, and Daniel Ward, health and exercise science student (both 2003), will be recognized for their outstanding volunteer service, dedication, work ethic, enthusiasm and leadership in the university and Fort Collins communities.

Distinguished Athletic Award

Jim Williams, who coached at Colorado State for 26 seasons - longer than any Division I coach in school history - will be recognized for serving the university with honor and distinction. He was inducted into Colorado State's Hall of Fame in 1986.

Distinguished Cooperative Extension Award

Patricia Kendall (1983), food science and human nutrition extension specialist, has been educating the public about food safety practices and nutrition since 1976. She is active in professional organizations and within the wider community and is known for her weekly Nutrition News columns that reach more than 630,000 readers.

Distinguished Faculty Award

Kenneth Allen, professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, is known for his significant research and for his dedicated teaching and service throughout his 25-year tenure at the university.

GOLD - Distinguished Graduate of the Last Decade

Scott Anderson (1993) is a graduate of the Construction Management program who now is Rocky Mountain Region project controls manager for TIC, The Industrial Company.

Honorary Alumnus Award

Shelley Godkin, manager of Colorado State's University Club since 1987 and retired Air Force colonel, will be honored with an Honorary Alumnus Award in recognition of his dedication and commitment to Colorado State.

Special Recognition Award and Honorary Alumni

Bob and Joyce Everitt are longtime Colorado State University benefactors and leaders in the business and civic community. Bob and his father Lee founded Everitt Companies, a leader in the Fort Collins real estate development industry for 50 years. Joyce is an artist and strong advocate of the arts in Fort Collins.

College Honor Alumnus/Alumna Awards

- College of Agricultural Sciences - Alan Foutz (1968, 1970), owner and operator of Foutz Farms in Akron, Colo., is a successful farm producer, adviser and community leader.

- College of Applied Human Sciences - Kelly Walker-Haley (1988, 1991, 2002), who retired from a teaching career in the Department of Health and Exercise Science in 1998 because of multiple sclerosis, is recognized as an exceptional teacher, adviser and inspiration to others.

- College of Business - Gary Howard (1973) is executive vice president and COO of Liberty Media Corp. The Gary and Leslie Howard Family Foundation Business Scholarship was established to aid deserving high-school graduates.

- College of Engineering - Joseph P. Marcus (1961) is a retired vice president of production operations for Lockheed Martin who continues to be actively involved in the college and the university.

- College of Liberal Arts - William Ritter (1978), district attorney for Denver, has served as a spokesman for the university to prospective students and their families and is an effective representative of the university throughout the state.

- College of Natural Resources - Edward M. Warner (1968), founder of Expedition Oil Company in Denver, recently donated funds to create two endowed chairs in geophysics and economic geology.

- College of Natural Sciences - Robert E. Kelley (1977), is CEO of Consultants to Executives and Organizations and a national best-selling author.

- College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences - Sen. John Ensign-Nevada (1985) is a successful veterinarian and supporter of the college.
