Order of the Engineer

Order of the Engineer

The Order of the Engineer (Order) is the roster of engineers in the United States who have participated in the Engineer’s Ring Ceremony and who have publicly accepted the “Obligation of an Engineer.”

Based on the Canadian Ritual of the Calling of the Engineer, the Order was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering professions and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer (the ring).

Inductees publicly accept and recite the “Obligation of an Engineer” making a formal statement of public and professional ethics and responsibilities, similar to the Hippocratic Oath of medical professionals.

Any current members of the Order of the Engineer are welcome to attend too! Current members can register to attend under “guest” and can opt to renew their oath to the Order at the ceremony.

Once you register, you will be contacted to complete your membership application to the Order and submit your ring size. The ring is typically worn on the pinkie finger of your working hand. If you do not know your ring size, it is highly recommended that you visit the Engineering Success Center (Scott Bioengineering 120) Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to be sized for your ring. You can also visit a local jewelry story to obtain an accurate ring sizing. You will receive your ring at the induction ceremony.

If you cancel your registration by the registration deadline, we can refund your fee. You may also go to the Order website to see where the nearest Link, or chapter location, is to you. Some locations will allow members of the public to attend and participate in their ceremonies.
