Colorado State University engineers translate research to commercial and societal impact, through our broad capabilities in engineering for environmental sustainability, climate and weather, infrastructure resilience, health and human-environment systems, and the cross-cutting themes of data, information, and systems.

We bring together academic researchers from Colorado State University with researchers from NOAA, NASA, and other institutions, to perform cutting edge research using satellite observations, numerical modeling, machine learning, and other methods to better our understanding of our planet and improve operational forecasting of weather and climate.
Researchers in the Department of Atmospheric Science are featured in a new episode of the long-running PBS science documentary series NOVA. It explores the occurrence of “rain bombs” – a potentially deadly global weather phenomenon that continues to mystify scientists.
