Homework #3

Questions:

The following refer to the book Introduction to Chemical Engineering: Tools for Today and Tomorrow (5th Edition).

  1. Reading Question 4 from Chapter 5 on page 79

  2. Homework Problem 9 from Chapter 5 on page 81

  3. Homework Problem 19 from Chapter 5 on pages 82 and 83

  4. Homework Problem 5 from Chapter 9 on page 155, but use an activation energy of reaction of \(E_{a}=\SI{2100}{cal/gmol}\).

  5. Consider the reactor and conditions in Homework Problem 6 from Chapter 9 on page 155. You are interested in quantifying how the volumetric flow rate of species \(G\) into the reactor, \(\dot V_{G}\), influences the size of the reactor.

    Using MATLAB

    1. compute the reactor size (\(\si{L}\)) for \(200\) equally-spaced values of the volumetric flow rate of species \(G\) between \(\SI{1}{L/min}\) and \(\SI{100}{L/min}\).

    2. Using the values from part a., plot the reactor size (y-axis) versus the volumetric flow rate (x-axis). Add a plot title and clearly label the axes (including units).
