Department celebrates end of year with awards

The department marked the close of the semester in their typical fashion with food and festivities at the spring 2025 end-of-year celebration. Chuck Shackelford presented student, staff, and faculty awards and received a surprise recognition of his own at his final celebration as department head.

Student and Academic Partner Awards

Outstanding Undergraduate Leadership Award: Madisyn Bietz, junior civil engineering student

Outstanding Graduate Student Awards: Patrick Swallow, M.E. student, and Ziluo Xiong, Ph.D. student

Outstanding Academic Partner Awards:

- Paul Goodrum, Department Head for Construction Management, for his exceptional efforts in establishing and supporting the new Construction Engineering degree program (not pictured).
- Caleb Stock, HDR Inc. and M.S. alum, for his exceptional efforts in supporting the successful 2025 ASCE Rocky Mountain Student Symposium.

Staff and Research Scientist Awards

Outstanding Research Scientist: Jeff Ellis, Hydraulics Lab Manager

Staff Award for Excellence: Jana Crouch, Communications Manager

Additionally, Jordan Jarrett presented awards to departmental staff for going “above and beyond” in their extraordinary efforts on the successful 2025 ASCE Rocky Mountain Student Symposium: Scott Buck, Amber Camus, Jana Crouch, and Shannon Miller.

Farewell, Chuck

After 11 years, this was Chuck’s final end-of-year celebration as department head. Amber Camus presented Chuck with a book of memories compiled from faculty and staff who have worked in the department over the years. Chuck will be greatly missed.
