Dr. Doug Fankell
Assistant Teaching Professor
Mechanical Engineering
Dr. Fankell specializes in mechanics of materials, non-linear analysis, and design. He earned his Ph.D. in 2017 by developing non-linear, multi-phasic finite element models to aid in medical device design.
Dr. Fankell has experience in industry working on projects including medical devices, nuclear power plants, and United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan Rocket. He loves teaching engineering and is passionate about refining engineering curriculum to help students develop all tools necessary to succeed upon graduation.
Dr. Fankell has taught classes in engineering design, engineering mechanics, finite element analysis, and introductory programming.
