Dr. Peter Chen
he/him/his
Research Scientist
Sustainability Research Laboratory
Mechanical Engineering
Peter graduated with his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University in December 2021. His dissertation explored process modeling, techno-economic analyses, and life-cycle assessments of algal biofuel production pathways. Prior to his graduate work, Peter started his research career in algae cultivation at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. After graduating from CSU, Peter worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Argonne National Laboratory focusing on life cycle assessments of sustainable aviation fuels. As of now, Peter has worked at four different Department of Energy national laboratories: Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Argonne National Laboratory.
Peter returned to CSU in January 2024 as a research scientist in Dr. Jason Quinn’s Sustainability Research Laboratory, focusing on algae cultivation for renewable fuels and environmental services. His work involves a mix of rigorous experimental operations on algal turf scrubber systems and system modeling of algal cultivation and conversion to fuels and products.
