David Trinko

Research Scientist I

Mechanical Engineering

David studied at CSU for each of his undergraduate and graduate degrees, culminating in a Ph.D in Systems Engineering. He is a stereotypical Coloradan – when he’s not at the computer revolutionizing the transportation system, he can be found hiking in the mountains, reading on the porch, or at a brewery with friends.

Research Interests

David’s research concerns the integration of the transportation system with the energy system, particularly the electric power system. The rapid transition from petroleum-powered transportation toward a future mix of fuels necessitates careful planning and coordination. Modeling, simulation, and data analysis conducted according to systems engineering best practices make it possible to leverage opportunities and synergies within the network of integrated systems that would otherwise be unavailable to planners and operators. The results are models and data visualizations that offer practicable insights about optimal paths forward, leading to a future of affordable, convenient, and sustainable transport.
