Star Sullivan is a higher education professional with over a decade of experience, dedicated to supporting students and faculty and promoting student success. Fluent in Spanish, Star is skilled in career and personality assessments, including the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.

She is a co-author of publications on restorative justice and peacebuilding in educational settings and has been recognized with both university and college level awards for her contributions to student success. Star is also proficient in key university systems and processes that support student advising, development, and academic program management.

In addition to her advising and research work, Star is actively involved in professional development and higher education communities. She serves on the Professional Advising Network (PAN) and the Department Awards Committee and has previously contributed to the Access and Success Committee as well as the Scholarship Review Committee. Through these roles, she contributes to initiatives that enhance student support services and promote best practices in academic advising.

Research Interests

Star is leading a multi-phase initiative at Colorado State University that addresses the academic impact of DSM-5–related mental health challenges by improving early identification, referral, and support for at-risk students. Her work focuses on strengthening how Mechanical Engineering supports students experiencing mental health challenges that impact academic performance. Through cross-campus collaboration, targeted training, and a pilot success-coaching model for students on Academic Watch, she is building clearer referral pathways, increasing faculty and staff capacity to respond to student distress, and providing individualized, proactive support aimed at improving retention and reducing academic dismissal.
