Research Interests

Jack’s areas of research interest include microalgae, second-generation biofuels, and agricultural-level sustainability assessment. Jack aims to apply experimental data collected at the laboratory- and field-scales to understand the performance of large, commercial-scale systems. Specifically, he is interested in how strain development, harvesting technology, and facility designs can be applied to reducing the cost of microalgae biofuels. He is also interested in the ways that land management strategies impact the economic and environmental costs of pasture and primary farmland.
