Mechanical Engineering
After serving in the US Navy for over 25 years as an Engineering Duty Officer, Captain Wise retired from active duty following major shore command at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Indiana. During his Navy career he qualified in submarines as an Engineering Duty Officer, qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer, obtained DAWIA (Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act) Level 3 Certification in Manufacturing, and obtained and has sustained his license as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas. Following retirement from the Navy, he worked as Senior Director for Navy Accounts at Siemens Government Technologies focused primarily on the adaptation of systems and technologies developed by Siemens to US Navy platforms. He then served as Vice President, Engineering, for DRS Technologies Marlo Coil Division responsible for design and manufacturing support of a variety of shipboard HVAC, refrigeration, and firefighting systems. Captain Wise was afforded the opportunity, under the Post–911 GI Bill, to enter the the PhD program in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University concentrating in applied thermodynamics. After completion of the PhD degree he taught as special faculty at CSU for one academic year prior to returning to industry and once again working for Siemens Corporations as director of federal marine programs in the US. Dr. Wise left Siemens and rejoined the Mechanical Engineering department as Professor of Practice in the spring semester 2020.
