2020 Graduate Student Showcase
Graduate students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering dominated the virtual 2020 Graduate Student Showcase on November 18. A total of 20 students from the college presented outstanding research projects, with 4 mechanical engineering students selected as scholarship awardees. Congratulations to all who participated!
Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering Excellence in Research Awards
Specific to and sponsored by the college, these awards recognize the research, entrepreneurship, and creativity of our engineering students. Two mechanical engineering students were selected for this award.
Audrey Beattie: “A Probabilistic Economic and Environmental Evaluation of Biofuel from Cyanobacteria”

Drivers of Innovation: The CSU Ventures Awards
These awards highlight the leading edge of the most innovative research originating from CSU. Awardees in this category have presented innovative research capable of solving commercial needs that benefit society. Additionally, the awardees have demonstrated a solid capability to communicate their science clearly as well as a superior ability to visually represent their research in a manner that is accessible to all audiences.
Peter Chen received a platinum award from his presentation, “Assessment of Plant Waste as a Mixotrophic Algae Substrate”
Diego Bernardi Bestel received a silver award for their presentation, “Development of a High-Efficiency Ultra-Low Emissions Heavy-Duty Natural Gas Engine”
