Admission Requirements for Engineering Majors

Engineers are innovators who need a strong foundation in STEM. Because engineering majors are competitive, there are additional admission requirements you must meet beyond the basic admission requirements for entering first-year students.

Cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher

Four years of college-prep math courses

C or better

Grades of C or better in all completed math courses

Application Deadline

CSU’s undergraduate application typically opens in early August and applications completed by the beginning of December are given full consideration and automatic scholarship review.

Because engineering majors are competitive, you should apply early in the first semester of your senior year (ideally before December).

Possibly. CSU requires students to create a Personalized Math Plan, which helps determine if you will be required to take the Math Placement Tool before orientation.

The Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering offers the ENcourage Engineering Math Program each summer to incoming engineering students to help prepare you for calculus by reviewing pre-calculus topics.

Yes. Many AP credits can be applied toward an engineering degree. Typical areas AP credit is granted for engineering majors include calculus, chemistry, physics, computer science, biology, and liberal arts subjects. Visit our Registrar’s Office webpage to see all AP equivalencies.
