Our Accreditation

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET): https://www.abet.org/

We offer a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, both accredited by ABET.

Civil Engineering Program Educational Objectives​

Within a few years of graduation, graduates of the undergraduate civil engineering program are expected to:
  • Identify, analyze, formulate, and design resilient and sustainable civil engineering solutions, both independently and in an interdisciplinary team environment;
  • Apply considerations of technical, legal, regulatory, social, environmental, economic, and ethical factors to develop solutions to multi-faceted and multi-disciplinary projects and programs;
  • Communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical settings using a variety of media and modes of communication with co-workers, clients, stakeholders, policy-makers, and the public;
  • Engage in lifelong learning, professional development, and leadership, including participation in continuing education courses, workshops, and/or graduate study, and the pursuit of licensure as a professional engineer; and
  • Exemplify the skills and capability to participate in activities focused on the betterment of their communities and society as a whole.

Civil Engineering Student Outcomes

The civil engineering program outcomes are consistent with the seven ABET Criterion 3 outcomes (learn more).

Graduates of the undergraduate civil engineering program will have the following:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
