The undergraduate Civil Engineering program provides a solid base in the physical sciences, mathematics, engineering fundamentals, and design and management concepts. Students are also able to pursue interdisciplinary aspects of engineering projects.

What Type of Civil Engineer

Will You Be?

Explore the different ways civil engineering appears in our world to discover your greatest interest. Then, specialize in geotechnical, structural, transportation or water engineering to focus on your passion. 

Geotechnical Engineer

Dig into the complex and uncertain behavior of earth materials to provide the foundations of infrastructure and the green energy transition.

Technical electives include applications of geotechnical engineering and slope stability, seepage, and earth dams.

Structural Engineer

Design sustainable and resilient infrastructure to support and protect communities from threats of natural hazards, climate change, and extreme events.

Technical electives include structural mechanics, resilience, natural hazards engineering, and the design of engineered systems.

Transportation Engineer

Navigate the shifting needs of transportation infrastructure to efficiently connect communities and bolster economies.

Technical electives include AutoCAD, transportation and bridge engineering, and asphalt pavement materials and construction.

Water Engineer

Protect communities against floods and droughts, restore rivers and floodplains, and design water supply, stormwater, and wastewater systems.

Technical electives include water resources planning and management, watershed hydrology, and groundwater engineering.

The Civil Engineering program at CSU gave me the foundation to turn my passion into a career. The faculty’s commitment to student success and mentorship prepared me to thrive in both leadership and technical roles. One of the greatest strengths of the program is the opportunity to dive deep into specific disciplines such as water resources. This opportunity, combined with a dynamic learning environment, allowed me to build expertise and skills that directly apply to the expectations of today’s employers.
