Ph.D. student earns ACI Foundation Fellowship

Congratulations to Ph.D. student Awetehagn Gebremariam for receiving a 2025-26 ACI Foundation Fellowship from the American Concrete Institute!

Awetehagn researches the durability performance of cement-based systems incorporating Type IL cement. His current projects include investigating acid-induced degradation mechanisms in Type IL and ordinary portland cement (OPC) systems, as well as examining the synergistic effects of carbonation, alkali-silica reaction (ASR), and salt attack on chloride binding and desorption behavior.

He works as a graduate research assistant in the Cement and Concrete Research Lab. He earned the Jean-Claude Roumain Memorial Scholarship from the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Concrete Institute in December 2024.

Great work, Awetehagn!
