Assistant Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering
Debasish Jana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University, joining the faculty in August 2025. His research focuses on AI-driven risk assessment and resilience planning for structures and infrastructure networks, particularly under natural hazards such as wildfires, earthquakes, rainfall, and landslides. His work aims to support data-informed decision-making and enhance infrastructure resilience, especially for vulnerable communities.
Jana’s recent projects span graph machine learning for critical infrastructure identification, generative modeling for synthetic hazard simulation, remote sensing integration using LiDAR, satellite, and camera data, and foundational models for multi-modal data fusion. His interdisciplinary research combines structural engineering, computer vision, remote sensing, and AI to develop novel tools for hazard-informed infrastructure management and planning.
During his Ph.D. at Rice University, Jana developed vision-based and data-driven methods for structural health monitoring, including non-contact cable tension estimation, nonlinear system identification, real-time sensor fault detection, and full-field response reconstruction from sparse data—advancing structural monitoring under extreme events.
