Ashwin Dhanasekar

Ashwin Dhanasekar is the Operations Leader for Digital Solutions at Brown and Caldwell with over 15 years of experience in the water and wastewater sectors. He also leads BC’s AI & Data Science Team. His professional expertise focuses on the development and implementation of intelligent water systems, specifically leveraging AI, machine learning, and Digital Twin architectures to optimize municipal utility operations. Throughout his career, Ashwin has led significant industry-wide initiatives, including the development of the decarbonization framework for the Smart Water Networks (SWAN) Forum. His work bridges the gap between academic research and practical engineering applications, focusing on sustainable infrastructure and data-driven solutions for complex environmental challenges. He is a certified Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) and has previously served as a Research Program Manager at The Water Research Foundation, leading their portfolios on Energy, Biosolids and Intelligent Water Systems. At Colorado State University, Ashwin serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, where he developed and teaches the curriculum for CIVE 580 – Applying AI in Environmental Engineering Practice.
