Shackelford inducted as distinguished alumni at UT Austin
Professor Charles “Chuck” Shackelford was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni by the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin in November 2025. The academy was established in 2003 to celebrate the outstanding professional achievements of alumni.
Shackelford earned his Master of Science and Ph.D. in civil engineering from UT Austin before starting as an assistant professor at Colorado State University in 1988.
“This recognition from the CAEE Department at UT-Austin is a great honor for me, as the graduate education and experience I obtained served as the basis for my entire professional career, which is being recognized. As both a first-generation and non-traditional student, I would never have dreamed of the impact that my education and experience at UT-Austin would ultimately have on my career and my life, and I am forever grateful.”
He served as the department head for the CSU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from 2013 until this fall, when he returned to the classroom. His many accolades include Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), lecturer for the Canadian Geotechnical Society’s Spring 2019 Cross-Canada Lecture Tour, and was awarded the first Kerry Rowe Honorary Lecture on Environmental Geotechnics by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. He holds professional civil engineering licenses in both California and Colorado.
