Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Dr. Young joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in 1995. He is a recipient of the Foundations of Augmented Cognition Award, the Outstanding Teaching Faculty Award, the Engineering Faculty Award of Excellence, and the El Paso Corporate Foundation Faculty Achievement Award. He also holds five patents in advanced control theory and applications. His research interests include mathematical system theory, the development of optimal controller synthesis methodologies for high performance controller design, and the development of strategies for the analysis and design of robust learning controllers. He also works on applications of these tools to power systems, including advanced plasma power suupply control, and the development of smart grids and associated technologies for clean energy generation and distribution.
