ELMS Information

ENS is pleased to offer to all Engineering students, faculty, and staff enrollment in the Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance Software Program. This program allows eligible users to obtain a personal copy of several Microsoft products at no cost (excluding optional media shipping costs).

Please understand that the software available from the ELMS web site is provided without support from ENS! ELMS stands for e-academy License Management System.

Frequently asked questions about ELMS

  • Where do I go for ELMS questions?
Check the Frequently Asked Questions on the ELMS web site (from the email discussed below) before inquiring with ENS. On the ELMS web site, click the Support tab, then the "Frequently Asked Questions" link on the left sidebar. If you need further help, please use the "Request Customer Support" link on the left sidebar in the Support section.
  • How do I get enrolled?
Each semester, all new faculty, staff, and registered students will automatically receive an e-mail from e-academy.com with the URL for the ELMS download site, your user name, and your password. If you have received the ELMS e-mail previously, and are still in the system, you will NOT receive another welcome e-mail. Please contact the ELMS program administrator if you need another e-mail sent to you.
  • I'm an Engineering student, but I didn't get the email.
First, make sure that your first.last@colostate.edu email is being forwarded to the email account that you use. All ELMS-related email will go to your first.last@colostate.edu. If, after you change your email forwarding, you still don't receive the email, please contact the ELMS program administrator. When inquiring, please include your full name and your first.last@colostate.edu e-mail address.
  • Where should technical problems with the ELMS website be reported?
Go to the support section in the ELMS web site.
  • Where should I go for technical problems with the software I downloaded?
    Microsoft.
  • What software is available?
Windows XP Pro, Microsoft Project, Visio, Visual Studio and others are available. Microsoft Office is NOT available. For the full listing, please see the Software section in the ELMS web site.
  • Should I upgrade to Windows Vista?
The short answer is, we don't recommend it. Please see the ENS Vista information page for details.
  • How do I get the software?
You must order the software you choose using the ELMS web site. You are then provided with a CD key, and a delivery method. Depending on the software chosen, there are several possible delivery methods: 1) a download link to download the software as a standalone installer; 2) a download link to download the software as a CD image (ISO) file; 3) a CD Checkout; or 4) burn the ISO file from the S: drive using a lab computer.

Please note: When selecting any of the download options, you MUST use Internet Explorer for this process. Other browsers may not process this download correctly, sadly.

    1. If you choose the standalone installer, just double-click on it to install the software once it's done downloading.
    2. If you choose the ISO file, you should use a CD mastering program ("CD burning program") such as Nero, which is available in the ENS labs, to burn the ISO image to a blank CD. (Please note, you can NOT simply copy the .iso file to a DVD or USB drive; it will not work that way.) If you need assistance with this step, please ask a Lab Consultant.
    3. Some software CDs are available for checkout from ENS. If the software is available as a checkout CD, you will be presented with this option during the online checkout process. You must reserve them using the online tool on the ELMS website. Installation CDs can be checked out for a maximum of 3 days at a time; we encourage you to make a copy for your personal use.
    4. Some software titles are available as an ISO image directly from the Engineering network, so that you can burn it using a lab computer. When available, this option will appear during checkout. If available, the ISO images are available from S:\Applications\ELMS. Look at the readme.txt file in the appropriate subfolder for instructions.
  • I'm having trouble downloading.
    • Internet Explorer is the ONLY supported browser for the ELMS web site. Please retry your download again using Internet Explorer.
    • If you are receiving a SDC0020 Error, make sure you are using Internet Explorer.
    • Disable any third-party download manager software applications that you may have installed.
    • Try ordering the product again, and select the CD Checkout option (if it's available for your product - see question above).
    • If the ELMS system reports that you have no downloads left, please email the ELMS Program Administrator with a request for more downloads.
  • The activation code for my Windows XP CD is not working.
Generally, this is because you are trying to perform an in-place upgrade of Windows instead of a fresh install. This CD does not support the in-place upgrade option (and we don't recommend it anyway). You will have to perform a fresh install of Windows with this CD. You should make a backup of all your files before doing this!
  • The installer is asking for Disk 2 of my application, and I do not have one.
Some software products require multiple disks to install. Please make sure that you download all disks required for your installation before you start to install the product.

List of ELMS Download Codes

  • SDC 00100 Error: Unable to find the source CD (expecting to find a SDC file on a local CD).

    • insufficient disk space to unpack or
    • a disk error or
    • use of a browser other than Internet Explorer
  • SDC 00300 Error: Unable to read from media, which is typically caused by the PC being:
    • unable to connect to network resource (for a Network Based install) or
    • unable to read from CD (for a secure CD based install)
Please note that this is a network connection error only.
  • SDC 00400 Error: Unable to complete the download, which is typically caused by:
    • an error in the configuration of the download package, usually due to a bad hosting location

    • the customer having attempted to download a product too many times to different folders (it is possible that no downloads have been successful)
    • the customer having already successfully downloaded/installed the software, and now wanting to download again
  • Error 70077: Parameter authorization failure, which typically means that:
