The Foundry

The Foundry is an extension of The EMEC. It serves the dual purpose of giving our students a practical education in one of the most important manufacturing processes ever created, while offering them a resource with which they can produce one-of-a-kind parts for the various projects that they will be involved in.

The art of metal casting has been an element of human life for over 5000 years and through the use of cutting edge technologies, casting practices are becoming more and more sophisticated every day. This is not a manufacturing process that will disappear anytime soon and we are doing our part to spread the word.

Our foundry facility is capable of handling most types of non-ferrous alloys.
If you have questions about what alloys we most commonly pour or if you have an alloy in mind and you would like to know if we would be willing to pour it, please contact Steven “Doc” Schaeffer, PhD.

Visits to the Foundry are by appointment with Doc only, please see the contacts page for how to get in touch.
