Dave Friedrich

Sept. 1, 1960-Sept. 1, 2008

David E. Friedrich of Loveland died at home Sept. 1, his 48th birthday, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with brain cancer.

He was born in Chicago on Sept. 1, 1960 to Charles and Phyllis Friedrich. The family moved to Estes Park in 1975, where Dave graduated from Estes Park High School in 1978. He married the love of his life, Karen Robinson, on August 29, 1981. They lived in Wixom, Michigan from 1984-1988 and in Loveland for the past 20 years.

Dave had another true love: cars. His fascination began at age 2 and just kept growing. He started working at gas stations in Estes Park and went on to be an Auto Service Manager at Montgomery Ward, Western Auto and most recently at Fred's Automotive.

Dave enjoyed spending time with family, Nascar, camping, road trips, skiing, playing pool, and comedy.

Dave's positive attitude throughout his illness will always be an inspiration. Among many other things, he will be fondly remembered for his willingness to help others, his quick wit and corny jokes, and his deep love for and devotion to his family.

Dave is survived by his wife, Karen, of Loveland; daughter and son Aubrey and Tyler, both of Boulder; mother Phyllis Friedrich of Longmont; sister Lisa Truesdale, her husband Jack and daughters Hannah and Julia of Longmont; brother Joseph Friedrich and partner Kara Saldeen of Loveland; sister-in-law Terri Burke and husband Kevin and family of Ft. Collins; and his Michigan in-laws and their families: Roy and Patricia Robinson, Roy and Jolynn Robinson, Dawn and Marcel Done, and Kirk Robinson. He is also survived by uncles, aunts and cousins in Illinois and Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Friedrich, in 1997.
