Water Utility Emergency Management

Surviving Disasters: Building On Experience

Purpose

Workshop Announcement

The American Water Works Research Foundation is supporting a workshop (scheduled for late 2001) to synthesize experiences of water utilities in disasters and recommend system design and operational policies and practices. Further information will be forthcoming during fall, 2000 as organizational activities get underway.

At this time, utilities and other water industry organizations are invited to express interest in participation and to contribute their experiences and suggestions to the final product of the workshop, which will serve as a guideline for others to prepare for disasters. In particular, utilities are invited to contribute short abstracts of disasters they have experienced or might experience.

The contact address is given below.

Contribute your experiences with water utility emergencies

At the workshop, we plan to review experiences of water utilities with disasters such as the following list:

If you would like to contribute your utility’s story, please send it to us by email, and we will include it in our set of case studies. Your report can include anything from brief sketch of what happened to a full report. Hopefully you can send the file electronically, but if not, a hard copy will be great.
