OK, the computer's got to have an operating system. Go with Fedora, CentOS, or Ubuntu (for Linux), Mac OS X (for Apple hardware), or Windows 7 Professional (not Home and not Vista -- neither "play well" on the CSU network).

What else?

All other software needed for classes will be provided in the computer labs.

If you need a copy of Windows 7, one is provided for you at no cost via the Microsoft Dreamspark Program. The Dreamspark program is only available to students in the CSU College of Engineering.
