He joined in 2002.<\/p><p>Dr. Yalin received his undergraduate degree in engineering physics from Queen\u2019s University in 1995, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University in 1997 and 2000 respectively, and held a post-doctoral position at Stanford University from 2000-2002.<\/p><p>At CSU, he serves as the director of the Center for Laser Sensing and Diagnostics which includes approximately 10 students researchers.\u00a0 He is also the director of the CSU NASA Space Grant program.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Philip joined CLSD in the spring of 2026 after completing his PhD and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Notre Dame. His work focused on modeling nucleation in hypersonic ground test facilities, measuring the vibrational temperature of non-equilibrium nitrogen using CARS, and designing and modeling focusing schlieren systems. At CLSD, he is now using PARS to detect trace amounts of hydrogen gas for industrial emissions detection applications.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section At CLSD, he is now using LIF to examine molecular nitrogen plasmas, aiming to better understand thruster-relevant molecular plasmas and sources.<br
