Williams is a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engr.colostate.edu\/me\/faculty\/dr-john-d-williams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering<\/a> at Colorado State University. Dr. Sampath has been with the Mechanical Engineering department since 1985. Dr. Williams\u2019s research interests include modeling of erosion phenomena of ion thruster components such as ion extraction grids and hollow cathodes, as well as experimental evaluation of plasma and ion beam interactions with materials for both aerospace and terrestrial applications. Mechanical Engineering faculty within NGPV conduct cutting-edge research with the goal of establishing photovoltaic electricity as a major source of energy in the US and the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dedicated in 1963 on CSU\u2019s Foothills Campus, the center also houses the Electric Propulsion and Plasma Engineering Laboratory, which has provided research, development, and testing since 1965. Current research includes ion extraction grids and hollow cathodes, the evaluation of plasma and ion beam interactions with materials for both aerospace and terrestrial applications, and depth
