The Aerospace Propulsion & Diagnostics Laboratory was thrilled to receive a tour of the 120th Fighter Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base. On May 11th, Spencer Teeter graduated with his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, after working for two years in the Aerospace Propulsion and Diagnostics Laboratory. He was instrumental in the development of a cold-flow supersonic indraft wind tunnel — the first at a university in Northern Colorado. Congratulations, Spencer! The Aerospace Propulsion and Diagnostics Laboratory was happy to host high school students from across Poudre School District at the Powerhouse’s first Aerospace Day! Students spent the morning learning about basic aerodynamic principles, talking to students from Design Build Fly and Ram Rocketry, and touring the lab spaces. The weather was perfect for a paper airplane competition before closing out the day. Katie Plese won 1st place at CSU’s Engineering Days for her undergraduate research on designing a high enthalpy source for the CSU supersonic indraft wind tunnel. “I would like to thank my advisor, Ciprian Dumitrache, whose guidance and support are invaluable. I would also like to recognize my MECH 498 peers, each of whom is completing research that has the potential to change the world. Ciprian Dumitrache, Mozhdeh Hooshyar, and Spencer Teeter presented their research at the 2024 AIAA SciTech Conference in Orlando, Florida. Ciprian presented his latest work on laser-induced ignition; Mozhdeh’s research focuses on modeling plasma-assisted combustion technologies; Spencer is developing a cold-flow supersonic indraft wind tunnel. Advanced Propulsion and Diagnostics Laboratory director Ciprian Dumitrache participated at the 2022 DARPA conference at Colorado State University. He presented as a DARPA Riser, an individual who has been dubbed an \u201cup-and-coming standout\u201d in their discipline.\u00a0<\/p>

Dumitrache was selected as one of the top five out of all DARPA Risers that presented at the conference. This event included young researchers and faculty from across the nation.<\/p>
